How much do Facebook ads cost? is the first question almost every small business owner asks — and it has two answers, because there are two bills. The first is the ad spend itself: money paid to Meta to show the ads. The second is the cost of managing the campaigns: strategy, creative, targeting, testing, and reporting. Confusing the two is how budgets get set wrong, so this guide keeps them separate throughout.
A business spending $1,000 a month on ads and paying a $1,250 management fee is spending $2,250 a month in total. Any quote that hides one of the two numbers is not a complete quote.
Meta charges per result, not per ad. The cost of a lead, a booking, or a sale depends on the audience, the offer, the creative, and the competition in that market — not on a fixed price list. That is why two businesses in the same city can pay very different amounts for the same kind of enquiry: one has an offer and a landing page people act on, the other is sending paid clicks to a slow homepage that does not convert.
As a planning guide only (not a promise): Vertex's Meta Ads page notes a recommended starting ad spend in the $1,500-$3,000/month range for a serious local campaign. Smaller test budgets are possible, but a budget too small to produce enough data cannot tell you whether the campaign works — it can only tell you that nothing happened yet.
A realistic month-one plan has three lines, not one:
Month one is a test, not a verdict. The goal is a cost per enquiry you can trust, a landing page that converts, and a follow-up process that answers fast — then a decision about scaling based on real numbers from your own account.
A suspiciously cheap offer usually means one of three things: the ad spend is tiny (so nothing is learned), the management is automated-only (no one is watching your account), or the reporting counts clicks instead of enquiries. Ask any agency three questions before signing: what is the ad spend, what is the fee, and what exactly counts as a result in the report? If any answer is vague, the price is not actually low — it is incomplete.
Judge a campaign on cost per real enquiry, not on reach, clicks, or likes. Track, at minimum: spend, enquiries received, enquiries answered, and bookings or sales that followed. If the report cannot connect an ad to an enquiry, the reporting is broken — fix that before increasing the budget. A campaign that produces enquiries at a cost the business can afford, with follow-up that answers them fast, is working. A campaign that produces cheap clicks and no enquiries is not.
If you are a service business in the US, UK, Canada, or Australia and you are considering Meta Ads: start with one clear offer, one landing page built for that offer, a test budget you can sustain for at least a month, and a follow-up process that answers within minutes. Then measure cost per enquiry, not cost per click.
Vertex Agency manages Meta Ads campaigns for service businesses from $1,250/month (management retainer; ad spend paid to Meta is separate). The first step is a look at the offer, the landing page, and the follow-up — before any budget is set.
